Pollution Prevention Workshops: Community-based outreach training and presentations from federal, state and local agencies for neighborhood automotive repair and auto body shops.
Chollas Creek Clean-Up Events: Multiple clean-up events annually that target Chollas Creek, which is located adjacent to the shipyard and has been adversely impacted by illicit dumping and stormwater runoff. Clean-ups are held in conjunction with other local environmental organizations.
Environmentally focused association memberships: NASSCO is a member of the Industrial Environmental Association (IEA), and our employees serve on the Boards of Directors and Environmental Committees of the San Diego Ship Repair Association and the San Diego Port Tenants Association.
Chula Vista Nature Center: NASSCO has joined in the environmental restoration and wildlife preservation efforts of this public resource located on the Sweetwater Marsh National Wildlife Refuge.
Environmental Justice Demonstration Project: NASSCO is an official partner in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Barrio Logan Environmental Justice Demonstration Project, which brings federal, state and local agencies together with businesses and community members to improve neighborhood air quality.
Negocio Verde Task Force: NASSCO chairs this green business outreach project to train and encourage local small businesses in becoming "green." The task force is the result of a partnership with the San Diego Area Green Business Program.
Pollution Prevention Week: General Dynamics NASSCO has participated in National Pollution Prevention week since 2002. During this week, citizens, businesses, environmental groups and other interested parties can join together in the common cause of preventing pollution, as well as celebrate successes. NASSCO employees serve on the San Diego and Imperial Counties Pollution Prevention Committee and the San Diego Area Green Businesses Steering Committee. These joint committees provide an open forum where pollution prevention ideas can be discussed among stakeholders, including the County of San Diego Air Pollution Control District, the County of San Diego Department of Environmental Health, the California EPA Department of Toxic Substances Control, and regional cities.
