Pollution Prevention Training for All NASSCO Personnel

All employees receive "Environmental Bulletins" (E-Bulletins) as part of the company’s Pollution Prevention Training. Topics include Pollution Prevention at Home, Pollution Prevention on the Roadways, and Pollution Prevention in the Shipyard. Additionally, pollution prevention articles appear regularly in the company’s employee newsletter, The Shipbuilder, and the Environmental Engineering Department’s newsletter, The NASSCO Tidepool.

Customer, Team Member, Supplier and Subcontractor Training

Environmental Engineering provides training to customers, suppliers, and subcontractors on regulatory compliance and pollution prevention in accordance with NASSCO’s Environmental Management System.Environmental Engineering provides training to customers, suppliers, and subcontractors on regulatory compliance and pollution prevention in accordance with NASSCO’s Environmental Management System. Over 100 organizations receive this annual training.

Annual Environmental Performance Reviews were conducted for these subcontractors and suppliers for the second straight year. This evaluation program provides organizations a means of measuring their success in meeting NASSCO’s Commitment to Our Environment. Organizations that actively pursue Pollution Prevention are awarded a 10-point bonus on their Performance Reviews.

Marine Coating Pollution Prevention Workshop

In our continuing effort to promote environmentally friendly business practices, NASSCO hosted a community outreach training workshop on marine coating operations.In our continuing effort to promote environmentally friendly business practices, NASSCO hosted a community outreach training workshop on marine coating operations. The Barrio Logan Environmental Justice Pollution Prevention and Compliance Assistance Task Force, led by NASSCO, conducted an air, land and water compliance assistance workshop for local waterfront painting operations.

The County of San Diego Air Pollution Control District, the County of San Diego Department of Environmental Health’s Hazardous Materials Division, along with NASSCO’s Blast, Paint, and General Services Department and Safety Department provided training sessions during this workshop.

Organizations who participated included many waterfront companies and small boat shipyards such as Knight & Carver Yacht Center, Driscol Boats and Hydrodynamics.
