General Dynamics NASSCO Names Graney Vice President of Engineering

July 13, 2007 - SAN DIEGO - General Dynamics NASSCO, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), today promoted Kevin M. Graney to vice president of engineering. Graney succeeds Jay P. Carson, who is retiring. 

Graney, 43, joined NASSCO in January 2006, as director of quality assurance. Prior to joining NASSCO, he was the program manager of capital projects and metrics associated with the Virginia-class submarine program at the General Dynamics Electric Boat subsidiary. Graney’s experience in design engineering includes managerial positions in the Virginia-class program and with Electric Boat’s involvement in the U.S. Navy’s CVN-21 program and the British HMS Astute-class submarine program. Before he began his shipbuilding career, Graney was a U.S. Navy submarine officer. He has a bachelor’s degree from the State University of New York Maritime College.

Carson, 55, retires from NASSCO after 22 years of service. He has served as NASSCO’s vice president of engineering since February 2004.

General Dynamics NASSCO employs more than 4,600 people and is the only major ship construction yard on the West Coast of the United States. NASSCO has delivered the first two ships of the T-AKE class to the Navy; five follow-on ships are now under construction. In addition to the T-AKE program, the San Diego shipyard will begin construction on the first of nine product carriers for U.S. Shipping Partners L.P., this summer.
