On Septemer 23, 2003, Mrs. Chin Gannon, wife of Captain Kevin P. Gannon, Supervisor of Shipbuilding, Conversion and Repair (SUPSHIP), San Diego, pushed a button to begin welding on the first steel plate for Start of Construction of the first ship in the T-AKE program, a new class of combat logistics force ships designated the Lewis and Clark class.
