NASSCO has a long history of ship construction for the military and the commercial sector. Here are just a few of our completed contracts.

Strategic Sealift

The landmark Strategic Mobility Requirements Study by the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 1992 concluded that the United States had insufficient sealift capacity to transport military equipment to an overseas conflict. This shortfall was highlighted during "Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm" when the majority of cargo had to be moved by chartered, non-U.S.-flag ships. PC-1 Product Tankers

In August 2006, NASSCO received a $1 billion contract from U.S. Shipping Partners L.P., for the construction of five double-hulled product tankers for U.S. coastwise trade. The start of lead ship construction occurred in August 2007, with the first keel laid in December 2007. The lead ship was delivered to U.S. Shipping in January 2009. BP Tankers

In September 2000, NASSCO received a $630 million contract from BP for the construction of four state-of-the-art, double-hull tankers for the carriage of crude oil from Valdez, Alaska, to BP's U.S. West Coast refineries. In September 2001, BP exercised an option for a fourth ship. Read more...

TOTE Trailerships

In December 1999, NASSCO was awarded a $300 million contract from Totem Ocean Trailer Express, Inc. (TOTE) of Seattle, Washington, to build two roll-on, roll-off (RO/RO) trailerships for TOTE's Tacoma-to-Anchorage cargo service. Read more...
